A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles 10:34-43
Jesus will judge the living and the dead
Then Peter began to speak to them: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ - he is Lord of all. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. A Reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Romans 6:3-9
Let us live by a new way of life
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be destroyed, and we might no longer be enslaved to sin. For whoever has died is freed from sin.

A Reading from the Letter of St Paul to the Romans 8:31-39
What can separate us from the love of Christ?
If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.
Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will hardship, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

All will be brought to life in Christ

1. Miss me but let me go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me

2. Death is just a Horizon
We give them back to you, O Lord, who first gave them to us; and as you did not lose them in the giving so we do not lose them in the return. Not as the world gives do you give O Lord. For what is yours is ours also, if we belong to you. Life is unending because love is undying and the boundaries of this life are but an horizon and an horizon is but the limit of our vision. Lift us up, strong Son of God, that we may see further. Strengthen our faith that we may see beyond the horizon. 3. Stranger at our side
All through life's day our risen Lord walks with us. Often, however, he is a stranger to us, for he never forces himself upon us. Before the day's end, we will ask many questions, experience many failures, disappointments and heartaches. And then, suddenly, whether we are young, middle aged or old, we will find that the shadows are lengthening and night is fast approaching. In that moment we pray that, like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, our eyes will be opened and that we will recognise him - the stranger who walked at our side - as our risen Lord. And he will not vanish from our sight. Instead he will guide us through the dark valley of death to the safety of the Father's house.

5. Gone from our sight
I am standing on the seashore. Suddenly a ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts out for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch her until at length she is only a ribbon of white cloud just above where the sea and sky mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says: "There! She's gone!" Gone where? Gone from my sight - that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her and just at the moment when someone at my side says: "There! She's gone!" there are other voices ready to greet her with a glad shout: "There! She comes!"And that is dying.

6. Footprints
One night a man had a dream. He dreamt that he was walking along a beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed the scenes of his life. For each scene he noticed not one, but two sets of footprints in the sand. He understood immediately that one belonged to him and the other to the Lord. But then he noticed a curious thing. At the lowest and saddest times in his life there was only one set of footprints. This bothered him and so he asked the Lord: "How come that during the most difficult times in my life, the very times when I most needed you, you left me on my own?" Then the Lord replied: "My friend, during your trials and sufferings when you see only one set of footprints, those footprints are mine. It was then that I carried you.

7. For one who died young
To my dear Parents...
Do not grieve that I died so young. I lived my span of life to the full, well cared for and always aware of your love. There are many who have lived long lives but have not been as well loved as me. If you would honour me, then continue to mention my name and to number me still among your family. If you would show me honour, keep alive your best memories of me, and keep your lives full of love, for it is love that lets us live. And above all, do not doubt that we will meet again in the loving arms of God our Father.

THE RITE OF COMMITTAL
When the funeral procession arrives at the place of committal the leader invites the people to prayer.
INVITATION TO PRAYER:
Our brother/sister N.has gone to his/her rest in the peace of Christ. May the Lord now welcome him/her to the table of God’s children in heaven. With faith and hope in eternal life, let us assist him/her with our prayers.
SCRIPTURE VERSE ( One of the following verses is read: )
Matthew 25:34 Come, you who are blessed by my Father, says the Lord inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
John 6:39 This is the will of my Father, says the Lord, that I should lose nothing of allthat he has given to me and that I should raise it up on the last day.
Philippians 3:20 Our true home is in heaven, and Jesus Christ whose return we long for will come from heaven to save us.
BLESSING THE GRAVE
The leader may sprinkle the grave and the coffin with holy water and say:
O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, bless this grave, and send your holy angel to watch over it. As we bury here the body of our brother/sister, deliver his/her soul from every bond of sin, that he/she may rejoice in you with your saints for ever.
Lord Jesus Christ, by your own three days in the tomb, you hallowed the graves of all who believe in you and so made the grave a sign of hope that promises resurrection even as it claims our mortal bodies. Grant that our brother/sister may sleep here in peace until you awaken him/her to glory, for you are the resurrection and the life. Then he/she will see you face to face and know the splendour of God, for you live and reign for ever and ever. R. Amen.
(If the final disposition of the body is by cremation, this prayer is said:
Almighty and ever-living God, in you we place our trust and hope, in you the dead whose bodies were temples of the Spirit find everlasting peace.
As we take leave of our brother/sister, give our hearts peace in the firm hopethat one day N.will livein the mansion you have prepared for him/her in heaven. We ask this through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.)

Lord, you consoled Martha and Mary in their distress; draw near to us who mourn for N., and dry the tears of those who weep.

Our Father, who art in heaven. . .

1. Because God has chosen to call our brother/sister N.from this life to himself, we commit his/her body to the earth, for we are dust and unto dust we shall return. [Where it is the custom some earth may be scattered on the coffin] But the Lord Jesus Christ will change our mortal bodiesto be like his in glory, for he is risen, the firstborn from the dead. So let us commend our brother/sister to the Lord, that the Lord may embrace him/her in peace and raise up his/her body on the last day. R. Amen.
2. Loving God, from whom all life proceeds and by whose powerful hand the dead are raised again, though we are sinners, we trust that you hear us with mercy. Accept the prayers we offer in sadness for your servant N.: deliver his/her soul from death, number him/her among your saints and clothe him/her with the robe of salvationto enjoy for ever the delights of your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.
